This is a simple pattern for a cute adult hat with snails ! You simply increase stitches as you go and seam snail appliques on the bottom. You can make this hat warmer by doubling up the yarn threads. However this is a perfect hat for early fall or spring.
Supplies you will need
- Size I9/5.50 MM crochet hook
- Red Heart Super Saver Yarn – Spring Green
- Yarn Seaming Needle
- Scissors
- 2 Charcoal Right Faced Snail Appliques Free Snail Crochet Applique Pattern
- 2 Purple Right Faced Snail Appliques
- 10 stitch markers

Directions
Round 1-Chain 3 ,in the 3rd chain from hook , do 10 DC in the same stitch. SS into top of first DC ( 10 DC total)
Round 2 – Chain 2 , 1 DC in same stitch , 2 DC in each following stitch around. SS into the top of chain 2 ( 20 DC total )
Round 3 -Chain 2 , 2 DC in first stitch , 1 DC in next stitch. You repeat this 10 times. SS in 1st DC of the round ( 30 DC total )
Round 4 -Chain 2 , 2 DC in first stitch , 1 DC in next 2 stitches , repeat this 10 times. SS into 1st DC ( 40 DC total )
Round 5 – Chain 2 , 2 DC in first stitch, 1 DC in next 3 stitches, repeat this 10 times. SS into 1st DC ( 50 DC total )
Round 6- Chain 2, 2 DC in first stitch, 1 DC in next 4 stitches , repeat this 10 times , SS to 1st DC (60 DC total )
Round 7 -Chain 2 , 2 DC in first stitch, 1 DC in following 5 stitches, repeat 6 times.1 DC in each remaining stitch. SS on top of first DC ( 66 DC total)
Round 8 – Ch 2 , 1 DC in each stitch around. SS on top of 1st DC ( 66 DC total)
Round 9 -15 – Repeat Round 8
Now here is where we add the snails !
Round 16 – Ch1 , mark with stitch marker, SC in next 3 stitches. Take the Snail you are starting with and line it up on the bottom rim , you will then SC through both the hat and the snail along the bottom of the snail body for fourteen stiches ( the length of the snail body)
Proceed to do 1SC in the next 2 stitches. Add the next snail (opposite color ) Repeat process .–you will have 2 SC in between each snail. SS into first stich.
Row 17 – CH1 , SC in each stitch around. Leave a long tail and snip off
Proceed to use stitch markers to attach the open parts of snail onto hat
While Seaming, make sure to keep antennae loose and free. It offers a three dimensional look and makes them stand out. But you will still seam each snail to the hat with the Spring Green Yarn. I just used a simple whip stitch , but you can use any stitch you are comfortable with. Just make sure you do all the knotting or ends in the inside of hat .
