Hexagon Flower Applique -Free Crochet Pattern

This is another easy to create Hexagon Applique for afghans, tank tops, bags, and coasters ! It has a pretty lacey effect to it.

Tools and Supplies

  • Size H/8 Crochet hook
  • Three different colors of worsted weight yarn
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch Marker

Symbol Chart

  • SC-Single Crochet
  • DC- Double Crochet
  • CH- Chain
  • SS- Slip Stitch

Special Stitches

Shell – 5 Double Crochets in designated stitch

** Note- CH3 at the beginning is a Double Crochet

Directions

Round 1 -Chain 4 with color A yarn, slip stitch into the first chain to become a small loop. CH3 ,Double Crochet 11 more times into the loop. Slip Stitch into the the top of CH3 to close circle (12 DC)

Round 2 -CH3, DC in same stitch, continue to do 2 DC in each of the next 11 stitches. You will have 24 DC at end of row. SS into top of first stitch. leaving a small tail.

Round 3 – With Color B, SS into any stitch of Round 2, CH3, 2 DC into same stitch ( half shell made ) , skip 1 stitch, SC into the next, skip 1 stitch, Shell into the next stitch, skip stitch, SC in the next . Repeat around the whole Round finishing with 2 DC in last stitch ( joining the first half of shell in the beginning ) . SS into the CH3 of beginning.

Round 4-CH1 , SC , Shell into the following SC, in the 3rd DC of the first Shell, Single Crochet. You will repeat this around, Shell in a SC and SC into the middle of each Shell.

Round 5 – With Color C , Slip Stitch into next stitch, CH3 , 2 DC in same stitch ( half shell made ) , CH2 , SC in the 3rd DC of Shell , CH2 ,Shell into the SC. Repeating the pattern of a SC in the middle of a Shell , Ch2, and a Shell in a SC . Finishing with 2 DC at the end of row to complete the beginning half shell . SS into CH2 at beginning

Round 6 – Ch1 , Single Crochet in each Stitch , CH2 after you SC in the 3rd DC of each Shell( making a corner ), proceed to SC in the 4th and 5th DC of Shell , 1 SC in each CH2 Space. Complete this process around the entire round. SS into the first CH1 and leave a longer tail for seaming.
