Flower Burst Applique – Free Pattern

This is a slightly more difficult applique than the previous ones I have shown you, but i promise it’s very forgiving . You can use these appliques to embellish bags , scarves or hats. You can even stitch these together to make an afghan.

Note – You will move up your stitch marker as you move up in rows. Always placing it in the first stitch.

Tools and Supplies

  • Size H Crochet hook
  • Worsted weight yarn in two colors
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch Marker

  • CH-Chain
  • DC-Double Crochet
  • HDC- Half Double Crochet
  • Ext.SC-Extended Single Crochet
  • SC-Single Crochet
  • SS- Slip Stitch

Special Stitches

Extended Single Crochet– this is where you will take your hook and insert it into the stitch 2 rows below of where you are currently crocheting. You will do this loosely versus too tight. The yarn will sit on top of the single crochet from the previous row.

Shell – SC, HDC, 2 DC, HDC, SC

Directions

Round 1 -Chain 4 with color A yarn, slip stitch into the first chain to become a small loop. CH3(counts as DC) Attach Stitch marker, Double Crochet 11 more times into the loop. Slip Stitch into the the top of CH3 to close circle (12 DC)

Round 2 -CH3 (counts as DC) DC in same stitch, continue to do 2 DC in each of the next 11 stitches. (24 DC) SS into top of first stitch. leaving a small tail.

Round 3-With color B attach your yarn, CH1, SC in first stitch, 2 SC in the next , Repeat pattern around until the end. SS in first SC ( 36 SC total) CH 1

Round 4 – SC in first stitch , you will now make an extended SC in the next stitch ( see images below ) , SC in the next. You will do this in pattern ( 1 Ext.SC , 1 SC) . SS into first SC . CH1 ( 36 total stitches)

Round 5 -SC in same stitch, CH4, skip 2 SC and SC in the next 3 stitches , CH4, Skip 2 SC and repeat pattern, until last 3 stitches , SC in the next two stitches and skip the last SC . SS into the first SC. CH1( You will have 7 chain spaces and 7 SC groups)

Round 6 – Shell into first CH space, SS into the 2nd of SC group, Repeat this in pattern. SS in last SC and SS in CH1 of start (You will have 7 Shells and 7 Slip Stitches )

Round 7-CH1 , you will now SC in each stitch. However after you SC in the first DC of the Shell , you will CH1 , and proceed to SC in next DC and each stitch. Always doing a CH1 after first DC of each Shell.

You will now weave any loose yarn in with your seaming needle, and trim any excess! And it’s all done !
