Halloween Squared Tote

Super simple tote to make for groceries , books or whatever you like to carry ! Would be a cute Trick or Treat bag as well !

Supplies and Tools

  • US I 9 / 5.50mm hook
  • Orange Worsted Weight Yarn
  • Black Worsted Weight Yarn
  • Stitch Marker
  • Scissors
  • Yarn Seaming Needle
  • Measuring Tape

  • CH- Chain
  • DC- Double Crochet
  • SS – Slip Stitch
  • SC – Single Crochet

You will start with Orange

Round 1 – CH5 , SS in 1st CH to form loop , CH3 ( counts as DC) mark stitch , DC 2 , *CH2, 3 DC ( Repeat from *) {12 DC, 4 CH 2 spaces }

Now you will begin Round 2 with Black , do not cut off orange , simply drop it , you will then pick it up and carry it for round 3

Round 2 – CH3 , *DC in each DC, in each corner you will ( 2 DC, CH2 , 2 DC) Repeat from * in pattern. SS in first DC { 28 DC , 4 CH spaces } Drop black yarn

Round 3 -Carry up the orange yarn ,Repeat in pattern like Round 2 { 44 DC , 4 CH spaces }

Round 4 -Switch to black Repeat in pattern {60 DC, 4 CH spaces }

Keep switching back and forth until square reaches 8 rows , Finish off and seam. Work on back panel in same fashion in solid black

Seam both sides together , in back loops only.

Tote Handles

You want to mark on the front and back panels where the handles will go . they will be placed 4 inches from each corner ( sea ohoto below)

To make the handles – Ch4 , SC in the second CH from hook , and in each remaining stitch . CH1 and turn. You will continue to do this in pattern until first handle reaches 22 inches long. Finish off with a long tail. Repeat for second handle. You can seam each handle with black yarn ( so it blends in with the stiches on the back ) Seam the handle strongly and how you feel comfortable stitching.
